The thing in the box

I'm all grown up..... well, most of the time.

Many months ago, something displayed in a retail store caught my eye. I kept staring at it for quite awhile, looked at the price tag, and reluctantly walked away. I thought I've forgotten about it until a new media sensation brought out the kid in me and left me wanting more. Many weeks later, while L'abeille and I were window shopping, we came across the same store. I went in so I could have the opportunity to 'stare' at it again. Of course, it was no longer there - I nearly kicked myself.

Over the next few weeks, during our window shopping sessions, I would make use of every opportunity to enter similar retail stores in the hope of finding it again. But, no luck. I regretted not getting my hands on it the first time...........

Solution came in the form of bidding through the internet. Needless to say, I confirmed the trade and the parcel L'abeille put so much effort in getting it for me finally arrived. And, what's inside? Well, see for yourself....

It's an Optimus Prime action figure from the Transformers cartoon series! And what does it do? Why, it has many movable parts and it can transform into a truck, just like in the cartoon (and in the movie).


If I gave the above response to my mom, and if she knew how much I paid for it, she'd most assuredly roll her eyes upwards and give me a weird look. As for L'abeille, she's an extremely wise and understanding partner (sincerely, I swear!) - no weird looks and no eyes rolling in the socket. She understands me (and the kid in me) completely. She even sat by my side while I was transforming Optimus into truck mode. According to her, it took me sixty minutes to do it. And she mentioned I looked extremely stressed during that entire hour. Well, of course I was stressed - I was extremely afraid of breaking something.

It was good to be a kid again...................

Transformers Frenzy!

Do you know how difficult is it to get Transformers Toys after the Transformers Movie Mania? I promised my cousin brother Transformers robots. Well, a promise is a promise. We've been looking for these 'plastics' at Parkson, Jusco and even Toys R Us Subang but What's left are those tiny die cast modals and guns. FINALLY, we found something we were looking for at Toys R Us Mid Valley and it's the LAST BOX LEFT. Gosh.. ! *rub rub sore feet*

Aww... we were every parent's enemy that day. X-T was wrapping his arm around the last piece of overpriced toy and a mother walk up to us to ask where did they display the toy X-T was holding in his hands. We told her it's the last piece left on the shelf ... *evil grin*. A dad was scrolling along the "Boys action toys" section asking "Where are all the Transformers!!".

Seriously, I saw evil stares across the heaps of overstocked Power Ranger toys from a few 4 year old little boys that day *It was a scary scary experience for me*

Now you know why I asked X-T to hold on to the box instead of me...MUAHAHA....

Toys

I grew up without PSP, X-box, Astro's Cartoon network, Barney & computer games. I've never heard of McDonald's fast food chain. The only McDonald I knew was OLD and he had a farm...hah! I classified "No need to eat rice day" as "Happy meals". I HATE rice even when I was a kid. Give me a cup of Milo or Holicks and you'll make my day! I used to eat rice with "rottan" or the "almighty cane" as my "side dish" almost everyday. Woops...out of topic..hehe, lets talk about the toys I used to play during my growing up years......

Some uses 5 stones but me and my "batu seremban" gang played 7 stones. It's quite an addictive game. All you need to do is throw one stone up the air and try to sweep one stone into your palm and simultaneously catching the one you threw up the air earlier using only one hand.

Plasticine. Heard of these? It's like Playdoh but it's cheaper, bigger, stickier and definitely waxier. I love playing with these modelling clay but I remember how I hate the waxy feel on my hands after playing. Dad ban me from playing at home because I decided to "Open my own bakery shoppee at the tender age of 5". To advertise my product, I stick my Plasticine bread, cakes and cookies on his wall and room wallpaper which leaves oily marks.....

If you think Kalkitos sounds like mosquitoes or some Japanese girl's name you came across in magazines (or obscene websites)... probably we're from a different era hah!. Each pack comes with a variety of colourful landscape card boards. As you open up the package, you'll find a plastic sheet of coloured transfers containing cartoons, cowboys, animals or vehicles depending on which theme you've choose. We'll need to transfer those pictures into the empty landscape using a blunt plastic stick which comes along with the set. This is a good Artie-based toy as it helps a child to improve on his/her imagination. I wish I can still get some of these in Malaysia.

Little girls play "Masak-masak". Some of my "little little boyfriends" played these too during preschool! Forcing mom and dad to taste "virtual meals" at home was.....FUN especially when they do the "Mmmmm....hoh chiak (means...tasty in Hokkien)" on every spoonful of "fresh air".

The 10th anniversary TMX Elmo

I know this is a little silly but yes....I tug X-trail along with me to Toys R Us @ Mid Valley over the weekends just to get myself this little red monster. My favorite puppet among the rest in Sesame Street.

I love the way this little toy giggles and roll on the floor (check out the link) but not for long.... X-trail jokingly tells me a story before he goes home that evening..

He said "Dear, if you put Elmo inside your room...he might wake up in the middle of the night and starts giggling.. Elmo might run around in your room making noises?".

I was thinking...Mmmm ....well, I might consider putting Elmo downstairs instead of my room. BUT what if Elmo knocks on my room door in the middle of the night begging to come inside? Arghhhhhhhhh.....when I open up the door, his eyes begin to glow???? Thanks dearie..you've just made my day!

Elmo's gonna follow mom back to Ipoh on her next visit... MY DECISION'S FINAL....
